Eligibility

NOTE: These criteria do not apply to those wishing to attend an 'Introduction to EMDR therapy'.

Eligibility to undertake EMDR Institute Basic Training in EMDR therapy​ - Australia

Applicants for Basic Training programs in EMDR therapy should possess the following qualifications when registering :

1. Allied Health Professionals


Allied Health Professionals with specialist training in mental health (Psychiatry, Psychology, Mental Health Social Workers, Psychological Medicine*, etc;) must have full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (or NSW Registration Board if residents of that state).
 

*Note:
A minimum requirement for general practitioners (GPs) is that they are accredited by the General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration (GPMHSC) and Medicare to provide Focussed Psychological Strategies.


 

2. Mental Health Professionals not covered by legislation
 

Social Workers must belong to AASW or be eligible for membership.

Counsellors and psychotherapists must be registered with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) as a Clinical Mental Health Practitioner or the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) as a Level 3 or 4 member.

 

3. Interns/Students
 

Students enrolled in a graduate level program in mental health (psychiatry, psychology, social work, counselling, etc.) who are currently involved in the internship portion of their program and are working under the supervision of a qualified mental health professional.

 

International Applicants

Applicants from outside of Australia must check with their own country's EMDR Association to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria to apply to undertake the trainings. You should only apply to undertake the training if you meet your country's eligibility criteria.
